Ocean Education

Education has been a very important part of our mission from the very beginning.  In schools, at community festivals, in museums and on the ocean -- we engage children and adults and invite them to learn and care about the ocean.

We invite students to explore their local environment, learn about their watershed and its connection to the ocean, identify connections between their actions and the health of the environment, and develop a personal sense of stewardship for the ocean.

Ocean Research Foundation develops education materials for use in schools - in both Spanish and English - to support programs in the following areas:

  • Reducing waste

  • Reducing marine debris

  • Watershed health and restoration

  • Beach and tidepool biology

  • Biology of large ocean animals

Our curriculum materials help schools or youth groups create projects that can be sustained over time. By encouraging everyday actions in students and their families, our projects have a significant impact.
